1. Set a goal
It is paramount to set a goal and follow it. You need to take care of the exam dates, homework and assignments. An organized schedule for your school work prevents you from being overwhelmed. You need to use it every day and look at it every time you sit down for homework.
2. Manage your study time
Different people like to work and read at different parts of the day. Plan your study time as per your schedule. You need to figure out what time in the day you are most productive. Commonly students take a small break after school and then study. Some pupils prefer to study at night or early in the morning. This all depends on your schedule and habits.
3. Manage your study space
The study place should be ideal for better concentration on studies. It should contain a desk or a table with a decent amount of space. Your study room should contain windows so that sunlight and air can enter into that. Avoid reading textbooks on your bed. Studying outside of your house can help you focus. You could choose local coffee shop or a nearby library and so on.
4. Take notes
An average student can write only ten percent of the lecture they hear. Hence, instead of trying to write down everything your teacher says, write down the conclusions of their lecture every once in a while. You can prepare your own notes and discuss those with your friends after class You can use Google to find out more information on the respective topic.
You can use flash cards to write down information on it. It will help you to focus on the subject.
5. Be attentive
If you are inattentive you merely understand the subject. Try to sit down in the front row, if you don’t have assigned seating. You should not mingle with those classmates who like to joke around in class. This attitude will sink into your study time.
6. Take breaks
Our brain can concentrate effectively for 30 minutes, you need to take at least 5 mins break after spending a decent amount of time studying. This is a tried and true learning method. After your break revisit what you were previously working on as a test. Don’t watch a television program or play a video game on your break. You might become too engaged and distracted to go back to work. Try walking the dog or go out for a quick run.
7. Test yourself
After studying test yourself during the last 20 or 30 minutes. It is effective to review everything you just went over and will cause the concepts you’ve learned to sink deeper into your brain. Textbooks often have practice tests at the end of a chapter. Try your best to go through one of these even if it isn’t assigned.You don’t need practice tests to test yourself. You can always use your hand to cover up definitions or parts of your notes. They say the idea of what you’ve covered up out loud. If you’re wrong, go through the correct answers.
8. Drink plenty of water
Mental fatigue, memory problems, and mental confusion can result when the brain isn’t properly hydrated. Grey matter in the brain actually shrinks, and chronic long-term dehydration can cause the brain to age prematurely. Drinking filtered spring water is the best way to stay hydrated.
9. Eat well
Brain foods such as Blueberries, Green tea, Avocados, Leafy green vegetables, Fatty fish help you to improve your focus. High-carb, high-fibre, slow-digesting foods like oatmeal are best for the morning of a test.
10. Sleep well
Researchers have suggested that the quantity and quality of sleep have a profound impact on learning and memory. You should take at least 7 to 8 hours sleep, which is important to motivate you on the study.
