Arise and Shine!
Let me start by first wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day! Most people have a love/hate relationship with this particular day, and often create numerous reasons to celebrate it or not. I am slowly being converted from the I hate this day crowd to the raving fans of it. Why? Because today reminds us to celebrate love! Love for those in our lives and love for ourselves!
This day is often focused on the love you share with a significant other. But I challenge you today to find a new expression of your love and a new object for your affections. Let your love expression be out of a place of selflessness. Not concerned about what you’ll receive but solely participating in the act of giving. And that does not have to be store bought gifts either. You can give a handwritten note telling how you feel about the person, a kind word or a compliment.
These cost you nothing but the effort in carrying them out. *Shine* in doing the unexpected. Break from routine and step outside the box. Instead of the usual Hallmark cards or flowers, create a homemade meal or craft for your special someone. *Shine* in doing for those who cannot do for you in return. Carry out a kind gesture for a stranger, or for an estranged friend or family member. They will delight in the fact that you thought of them.
When We Spread Love God is Glorified
It may take courage to silence apprehensions and extend these expressions of love. But it is so worth it. Not only does it make the other person feel good it makes you feel good as well. Here’s the ultimate benefit, God gets the glory when we spread love to others. Simply because God is Love. Shine in your efforts to show love to yourself and to others today and going forward. Start from that assurance that God loves you far more than you know! 🙂
Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. (Isaiah 60:1 NIV)
Happy Valentine’s Day!
